The Sony Xperia 1 VI could end up including new camera hardware after all. As some of you recall, a report from earlier this month suggested that the Xperia 1 VI will have the same camera hardware as its predecessor.

Well, that may not be the case. The Sony Xperia 1 VI camera island leaked and it suggests larger camera modules will be used. Wider apertures will be used, and that could mean large camera sensors too.

If you take a look at the image below, you’ll see teh Xperia 1 VI camera island standing side-by-side with the Xperia 1 V’s camera module. It is clear as day that the former is physically larger, together with camera cutouts.

New lens protectors are obviously larger

The lens protector of the Xperia 1 VI measures 5.2cm (height) x 1.5cm (width). The one on the Xperia 1 V measures 4.9cm x 1.3cm. The difference is obvious. In addition to that, the Xperia 10 VI lens protector also surfaced, and you can see it below.

That one measures 3.3cm (height) vs 1.6cm (width), compared to 3.2cm x 1cm of the Xperia 10 V. So it’s not only a bit taller but also considerably wider.

So, it’s anyone’s guess what’s going on when it comes to the Xperia 1 VI. We didn’t really have any info on the Xperia 10 VI, so that’s besides the point, but the Xperia 1 VI could end up including different cameras after all.

The phone will be fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and it’s coming on May 17 most likely. That’s when Sony’s upcoming ‘special Xperia event’ is taking place. We’ve also exclusively leaked the CAD-based renders of the Xperia 1 VI, in case you’d like to check those out.
