Sony reveals Xperia 1 VI & Xperia 10 VI launch date

Sony has just revealed the launch date of its upcoming smartphones, the Xperia 1 VI and Xperia 10 VI. These are the company’s upcoming flagship and mid-range devices, respectively.

The Sony Xperia 1 VI launch date has been officially announced

We’ve exclusively shared a ton of images of both phones quite recently. Having said that, the two devices will become official on May 15. The event will take place at 4 PM Japan time, which translates to 9 AM CET / 8 AM BST / 3 AM EST / midnight PST.

Sony, via its social media accounts, said that the event will be livestreamed via SonyXperia YouTube channel. The event is probably taking place in Japan, even though the company did not flat-out say it. Considering that ‘Japan time’ is mentioned, and Sony is based in Japan… that’s probably the venue location.

It’s still a bit early for it, but Sony already shared the link for the livestream. It is embedded below the article, in case you need to track it down on May 15.

The new device will be wider than the Xperia 1 V

With that being said, the Sony Xperia 1 VI will be similar to its predecessor design-wise, with one major change. It won’t be as narrow as the Xperia 1 V. Sony is changing the display aspect ratio on the device.

It will still have flat sides, and a flat display, though. Sony is also sticking to the slightly thicker top and bottom bezels in order to avoid using display holes of any kind.

The Xperia 1 VI will be fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, the best Qualcomm has to offer. We’re expecting the phone to offer LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 flash storage as well.

Three cameras will be included on the back of the phone. The device will include an improved telephoto shooter (85-170mm lens), with a zoom capability of up to 7x. The main camera and ultrawide units will also be on offer.

The new display on this smartphone will be 1.5x brighter, it is said, while its refresh rate will be adaptive, and go up to 120Hz. A 5,000mAh battery is expected but with an improved battery life. Android 14 will come pre-installed on both devices.
