Mapex’s Saturn and Orion series are among the most popular budget-friendly drum kits, offering great sound and endless durability. The Taiwanese company continues its path among the stars with its new entry-level series, Mapex Comet. Additionally, these all-in-one packages include the necessary hardware, cymbals, and even a pair of drum sticks, so there is no reason not to start your drum journey with these.

Mapex Comet: Entry-level price, pro-level features

While the Mars Series from Mapex already offers a lot of sound and durability for its price, these kits are only shell sets. In addition, you have to get the necessary hardware stands, cymbals, a drum throne, and pedals. Which in total puts you at a higher price than what might be affordable for beginners.

Enter Mapex Comet. The drum manufacturer is celebrating its 35th year on the market, and it seems like they really went all in with this series. To start with, there are three sets of kits: Comet Stage, Comet Fusion, and Comet Fusion 18″. The differences lay in the shell sizes.

For the Comet Stage sets, you get a 22″ x 16″ Bass Drum (with two Tom mounts), a 10″ x 7″ Tom, a 12″ x 8″ Tom, a 16″ x 14″ Floor Tom, and a 14″ x 5″ Snare. In comparison, you get a 20″ x 16″ Bass Drum (with two Tom mounts), a 10″ x 7″ Tom, a 12″ x 8″ Tom, a 14″ x 12″ Floor Tom, and a 14″ x 5″ Snare for the Comet Fusion sets. Additionally, there is a smaller 18″ x 16″ Bass Drum in the Comet Fusion 18″ sets.

Just like with the Mars and Tornado series, Mapex has included their acclaimed SONICclear bearing edges with each drum shell. With this special bearing, the drum head lies more even on the shell, which makes tuning it easier. In addition to the five drum shells, you get a complete hardware package for the Mapex Comet so you can start drumming immediately.
