It’s late to the party, but the Roland Cloud Space Echo RE-201 could be one of the most authentic recreations of the classic echo effect.

The famous RE-201 Space Echo is a legendary effects unit that might seem clunky by today’s standards. However, it was considered conveniently portable back when it was launched in 1974.

By combining a 3-head tape delay system with a spring reverb, Roland created one of the most singular effects units ever. The Space Echo is loved by artists and producers of Trip-Hop, Dub, and many styles of electronic music.

In this version, you have precise control of the echo repeats, and there’s a tape speed LFO section with six waveform shapes, as well as rate and depth controls. Furthermore, there is tempo sync, single and dual processing modes, and controls for the tape’s condition, wow/flutter, and motor torque.

While you might be thinking that another Space Echo plug-in is hardly what the world was waiting for, Roland has outdone themselves by creating a plug-in that actually makes sense in a modern context.

Producers have the option to quickly access the echo and spring reverb sounds with precision controls that allow you to work them into a wider range of music genres.
