Huawei will announce the world’s first tri-fold smartphone soon, and it has just appeared in a live image again, along with its price. We’ve seen this phone in live images two times thus far, in the hands of Richard Yu, the company’s exec.

The Huawei Mate XT tri-fold handset just appeared in a new live image, along with its alleged price

This time around, the phone surfaced on Weibo, and this is the highest-quality image we’ve seen thus far. Unfortunately, it does not show us the front or the back sides of the phone. We only get to see it from the side here.

Now, before we go any further, do take this image with a pinch of salt. Not even the source is 100% sure this is the Mate XT, though it seems to be. It is, at the very least, an engineering prototype of the Mate XT.

A fingerprint scanner sits on the right-hand side

In any case, you’ll notice a fingerprint scanner on the side, while you can also see the camera bump here. The bottom part of the phone, where the camera sticks out from, seems to be thicker than the rest.

What’s interesting here is that we’re seeing only one folding point here. In all honesty, this looks a bit weird from the side, It remains to be seen how exactly will this phone fold out, as it’s supposed to have two folding points, thus two hinges.

It does not look thick here, that’s for sure, especially for a tri-fold device. The frame seems to be made out of metal. For those of you out of the loop, this will become the world’s very first tri-fold smartphone.

It will allegedly ship with 16GB of RAM & 512GB of storage

The source claims that this model comes with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. We presume that Huawei included LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 flash storage here.

The price is also mentioned. The device will allegedly cost CNY16,888 in China. That translates to $2,374, which is a lot of money. Still, it’s far less than initial rumors indicated (close to $4,000). This is, after all, the world’s first phone of its kind.

The Huawei Mate XT (Ultimate Design) will become official on September 10. So we’re less than a week away from that launch event.
