James Darren, who became an instant teen star as teenage surfer Moondoggie in the “Gidget” movies and had a prolific career in television and music, has died. He was 88.
Darren went to a Los Angeles hospital for scheduled heart surgery last week but was deemed unable to continue and was sent home, Jim Moret said via multiple channels. But his poor health forced him to return to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he died in his sleep surrounded by his family.
