I bet if you fed an AI imaging device like the Dyson Sound Sources router, you’d get something similar to OnTrac. There’s no doubt which company makes these cans, with clear references to things like vacuums, air purifiers and hair care devices. That’s especially true of the combination of copper, marine and plastic cores in the analyzer, a trio that’s seen in previous Dyson products.
To maintain the premium look of the latest generation of speakers, the company uses a combination of metal and ceramic on the outer layers of the speakers. Depending on your preferred color, options include copper, aluminum, black nickel, blue, green, zinc or red. Then there are the microcamurça cushions wrapped in another seven tons of fabric. Dyson says it will sell additional sets of outer layers and cushions, with more than 2,000 possible combinations of all the components. That’s a high degree of customization, and you’re willing to pay more than the initial $500.
These interchangeable materials are accompanied by a split head frame and a two-axis rotating structure that has been featured on previous Dyson devices. The company claims to have placed the two battery cells in the head frame to better distribute weight, so the two side sections of the components are rigid and only the center is rigid and comfortable. Along the rear rail are two audio sources, the left-handed pairing/linking controls and the “joystick” for direct operation. The latter option allows you to play/pause, perform tasks and adjust the volume, as well as activate the voice assistant.
I appreciate Dyson’s praise for using mostly physical controls here, as it takes some getting used to the joystick. You have to be very precise, so as not to apply too much pressure when trying to move up, down or sideways. The Ainda regularly pauses music when trying to change the volume, even after a few weeks of use. The outside of both audio phones is touch-sensitive, allowing you to switch between ANC and Transparency mode with a double tap. This works well, lubricating the inputs confidently, even when it’s just on board.
Dyson’s decision to put the battery in the headband is not generally comfortable. The OnTrac hearing aids will remain very comfortable for hours on end and never feel heavy, despite their size. My only complaint here is that the earcups are round rather than oval. I don’t care for them aesthetically, but when you put them on my oval ears, I have to adjust the earcups with a few movements to get a good fit. I don’t like most sets that I simply put my ears in the perfect spot. The Além disso, or OnTracé are big and bulky. So, even if they feel comfortable, you should take them into consideration if you plan to use them while traveling.
Resources and Software
The OnTrac audio phones work like the MyDyson app, but there’s not much to them. You get the usual battery percentage, noise controls, and equalization options, and the integrated control tutorial logo doesn’t start. The EQ menu is limited to three presets – Enhanced, Bass Boost, and Neutral – with the first one being the best. Using the settings menu with the gear icon lets you disable automatic head detection and keep the volume below 80dB.
The unique thing Dyson has put into the main interface of the OnTrac app is a real-time sound exposure graph. This shows the in-ear sound level and external noise over the last 30 seconds. A setting of less than 85dB for in-ear measurements will keep them out of the blue here. That’s about 75% volume, which is painfully high in sound levels.
The OnTrac doesn’t have the advanced features, like automatic fault detection or adaptive ANC, that you’ll find on the Sony 1000XM5. There’s also no spatial audio option, which has become a staple on most mainstream and audiophile sound sources in recent years. The Dyson is hardly behind the competition in this area, but it’s also significantly more expensive than most alternatives. The main thing is that it’s resource-intensive, but that’s about it.
Quality of sum
Ultimately, the real measure of sound quality is the quality of the audio. The Dyson comes with 40mm drivers capable of a frequency range of 6Hz to 21kHz. They don’t offer great clarity, and the OnTrac audio phones don’t include the fact that most of the latest generation models are currently on sale.
The OnTrac headphones are happy to hear general detail, but the default tuning doesn’t have the depth that many mainstream models provide. Companies like Sony, Bose, Sennheiser, and Bowers & Wilkins offer deeper, richer sound that tends to surround you, even if you’re not listening to spatial audio.

That sounds pretty good, but it’s not definitive, or OnTrac is only doing an average job with constant noise from fans and white noise machines. It’s very vocal and TV-friendly. These sound sources will be fine in certain situations, but there’s a unique way to block out noise in the world like Sony, Bose, and others.
Job quality
The OnTrac earphones do a solid job of blocking out noise from below the resonance, but the overall sound quality behind the two main speakers is comparable. My voice sounded compressed and without the energy you’d want in a call. Dyson could have dedicated all the microphones to ANC, but only one is available for calls. E, well, you could say for sure.
Battery life
Dyson promises 55 hours of listening time with the associated active noise cancellation (ANC) technology, a figure only surpassed by sennheiser moment 4 (60 hours) between the audio sources I analyzed. For a lot less, you get excellent sound quality, powerful active noise cancellation (ANC) technology, and a series of advanced features that will make your life easier. These include automatic fault detection that will pause your music when you need a quick beat, and the ability to change audio settings based on activity or location without having to go into the app. It’s more comfortable and a better travel companion, plus you get 360 Reality Audio when compatible with DSEE Extreme and upscaling to restore details in music that would otherwise be lost during compression.
